Summer is grilling season and one of our favorite activities. It is important to make sure that you know the legislation about grilling and follow safety rules in order to prevent accidents like fires. Here are five tips that we recommend anyone follow when enjoying a summer BBQ:

1. Know the Updated Fire Prevention Codes

Last year, the city revised their fire prevention codes in regards to outdoor heating appliances and fireplaces as well as information about grills. You can check out the updated code here.

2. Setup in the Right Area

Make sure that your grill is away from buildings, leaves, and any other brush that could cause a fire hazard.

3. Keep a Fire Extinguisher Handy

It is better to be safe than sorry! Keep a fire extinguisher handy in case there are any mishaps or sparks that cause problems.

4. Be Mindful of Pets and Children

Be cautious grilling around pets and kids that may get injured near an open flame or because of the heat. Never leave the unattended.

5. Follow Manufacturer’s Directions

Read the instruction manual that accompanied your grill to make sure you follow all regulations and precautions they recommend.
